THE STORY behind the VILLA MATHIS

The story of the hotel Villa Mathis first started with the magical converging of a life plan and a dream island - Bali, Indonesia. In 2001, a French-speaking couple, Bruno and Lilka, fell in love with the island; they decided to leave behind the stress of Parisian life and to design an original concept of accommodation which they named “La Villa Mathis”, in honour of their son. Their intention was to blend the Balinese way of life, its traditional building materials and its surroundings with the architectural norms of upscale hotels. 



Originally intended for the exclusive use of their close friends, the temptation to share this little part of paradise with travelers who would take the time to stop over, was too great. Since 2005, Bruno and Lilke have been welcoming guests with open arms, making them feel like longtime friends. The secret of the Villa was shared among close friends and word has now spread of this privileged location on the Island Blessed by the Gods.

A NEW CONCEPT of VILLA-STYLE CHARM HOTEL

Surrounded by rice plantations and easily accessible from Kuta or Seminyak, the Villa Mathis is the epitome of good taste; it comprises 5 large detached villas each with 4 ou 5 bedrooms (giving a total of 18 bedrooms), a restaurant, a lobby, a private garden, a large swimming pool and its own staff. Each villa is also available for exclusive rental.

The entire property consists of a vast and lush tropical garden of over 11 000 m2, planted with indigenous and exotic species, and is dotted with many small water features and other recreational areas. Thanks to a special architectural landscaping including a series of small paths, secret passages and bamboo palings, the feeling of privacy is total within each villa. This modular configuration allows for the booking of a room, a villa or full privatization if needs be (couples, groups of friends, families, incentives ...).



By interpreting and re-adapting traditional architectural norms, and by adding a subtle and refined decoration using materials of local origin such as the Alang-Alang roofs or Terrasso floors, the designers of the Villa Mathis have succeeded in creating a most prestigious establishment which could have come straight out of a home décor magazine.

During the day, life revolves at your own pace to the sound of soft and relaxing music with typical Indonesian rice plantations as the backdrop. Each locality is intended to be ephemeral and multi-functional - a comfortable lobby is the ideal place to enjoy breakfast, a corner of the tropical garden can turn into a romantic restaurant in the evening with a magnificent view of the rice fields. Enjoy relaxing next to one of the pools (there is one in every villa, and one villa even has a spa set in a cave !), or surrender yourself to the expert hands of our masseuses who practise traditional Balinese massage and Jamu cures. Again it is up to you to decide on the most appropriate place - in your room, in the spa or in the gardens of one of the villas. So unwind and enjoy the gentle rhythm of Balinese life, the refinement and the tranquility of each moment.

Indonesian cooking classes under the auspices of the hotel chef in his own kitchen, are available to those of our guests who wish to rub shoulders with Asian culinary delights. A rare and rewarding experience for gourmets, ending with a tasting of your own creations.

From the Villa, wide-ranging activities are possible, from short mountain bike rides around the rice fields to excursions with an experienced driver / guide allowing you to explore the island (or neighbouring Java) while returning to the Villa each evening for a glass of champagne at sunset. A must!

In the evening, the Villa takes on the appearance of a thousand lights under the stars, with torches, chandeliers and candles in its gardens and by its 4 swimming pools ... Have your table set up wherever you see fit, in accordance with our overall principle of ephemeral dining, leaving you the choice of place and setting for your meal. You will be served a rich and varied menu encompassing classic Indonesian dishes, some Asian dishes and a selection of more international dishes to delight every palate. Be it in a Lounge atmosphere at the water's edge or a cosy lovers’ tête-à-tête, the variations are endless ... Take the opportunity of discovering all the villas of the property, each one is different! 


The new restaurant Nuits Baroques, whose dining room overlooks the pool of one of the villas, provides a menu in a more festive atmosphere, with live music and floor shows.
